What is Play Therapy?
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than a year of conversation.”
Children communicate through play. Play therapy is an effective intervention for children and young people because they can communicate their emotions, needs and experiences through play. Play Therapy uses tools such as art, music, puppets, sand play and therapeutic stories to help children and young people explore their difficulties. Play Therapy offers children and young people a safe and non-judgemental space to discover their unique selves and work through their difficult emotions.
Play therapy can be an effective intervention for:
- Anxiety and stress
- Experiencing parental separation
- Bereavement and Loss
- Communication Difficulties
- Social difficulties
