I have over 20 years experience working in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist across inpatient and community settings in the fields of acquired brain injury, learning disabilities and mental health.
I am able to offer an Occupational Therapy assessment that either provides a global overview of an individuals skills, functioning and environments and/or assessments that focus on specific skill areas or function areas such as sensory processing or return to work/education.
I work with the Model of Human Occupation and my assessments follow this framework and/or use some of the specific assessments from this model such as the Assessment of Communication and Interaction (ACIS), Occupational Self Assessment (OSA child & Adult) and Volitional Questionnaire (VQ).
I have knowledge and experience of different mental health diagnoses, autistic spectrum disorder, sensory processing problems and acquired brain injury’s such as anoxic injury, stroke, encephalitis, concussion, diffuse axonal injury and hemorrhages.
I have over 10 years experience of working with individuals and their employers or education establishments to assess and plan any potential return to work/education. I am experienced in liaising with employers and educational establishments as part to the return to work assessment. The Occupational Therapy role of matching skills to the demands of a work role and environment has been valuable for some individuals to return to work or find new options for occupational engagement.
I have experience and knowledge of working with young people and adults who have experienced trauma including those who have been or are looked after and how this may affect their daily routine. I am also a member of the Association of Family Therapists following my qualification as a systemic practitioner.
After assessment – I am also able to offer occupational therapy interventions in the form of recommendations and goal setting with individuals. This would be agreed with the client if they would like recommendations and’/or a set number of sessions to evaluate the implementation of the recommendations.
At our first consultation we would discuss what you would like from Occupational Therapy and on what different options I could offer. I am keen that we are both clear on what you need and what I can offer so welcome your questions. We would usually meet at a clinic setting for our first consultation but then may meet in various community settings. I am based in Dorset but travel into Southampton and the surrounding areas.
