Dr Christina Morberg Pain
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
CBT, MBT, DBT
Experience and approach:
I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2004. During my training I gained experience of working with children and adults with a variety of psychological needs. In my last year of training, I specialised in providing cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for clients with Psychosis. Since qualifying I have worked within the NHS in forensic in-patient and community settings, and in the last few years I have worked in a specialised Personality Disorder clinic. In these settings I have worked with adults who have complex and long standing mental health needs and/or personality disorders, and who may be of risk to themselves or others. As such I have extensive experience of assessing and treating a wide variety of psychological difficulties. These include anxiety disorders, anger management difficulties, mood disorders, trauma, impulsive behaviours, personality disorders (or personality related difficulties), and motivational difficulties.
I offer both short-term and long-term therapy. Initially in therapy, I work together with clients to assess the presenting difficulties and together develop an understanding of what has contributed to the difficulties and how they are maintained. I offer therapy in a warm and validating manner and work collaboratively with clients towards recovery. I work mainly within a cognitive-behavioural framework, but am able to draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches in order to meet the specific needs of each client. For personality related difficulties, I have been trained in and have extensive experience of using mentalisation based therapy (MBT), an evidence-based therapy with clients with emotional-unstable (borderline) personality disorder. I have also extensive experience of undertaking risk/forensic assessments to probation and courts and in providing supervision and training to other mental health professionals.
