I have worked as a Chartered Psychologist since 2010, both within the NHS and also within the Charity Sector. To begin with I worked in Primary Care Mental Health Services, working with depression and anxiety disorder including panic disorders, agoraphobia, phobias, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I also work with presentations that do not have an official diagnosis including difficulties with self esteem, confidence, low motivation, stress, high expectations and the impact these can have on eating and sleeping. I have further specialised to work in Clinical Health Psychology, working within an NHS Pain service and working with people with Long Term Conditions.
There is no one therapy that suits everybody. I mainly use CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as I feel that it helps people gain insight and learn skills to help them make changes. I am also able to practise using ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Often when we are in a difficult emotional place, it can impact on our relationships and I am a trained Couples Therapist. I am happy to work with Couples to help them with their emotional difficulties.
What to expect?
I like to work in an open and collaboratively way, thinking about the changes that you would like to make and how you can achieve them. Our work together can explore why you are faced with these difficulties, and what you can do to overcome them. I am happy to work both short term to do a focus piece of work, but also longer term, to provide time for greater insight and reflection. Overall my aim is to equip you with tools and techniques so that you have the strength and confidence to go forward independently to manage and maintain your wellbeing. I am happy to meet with you to discuss further how we would work together.
