About me

Hello, I am Dr. Lucy Furlong and I’m a Charted Clinical Psychologist offering a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk in confidence here at my clinic in Petersfield. My clinic is currently held on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2006. My training included working with adults and children with a wide range of difficulties including, anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder and childhood difficulties. I have a particular interest in anxiety disorders and completed my doctorate research investigation into different Cognitive Models of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Clinical experience

Since qualifying I have worked for Sussex Partnership NHS Trust in the early intervention for psychosis, rehabilitation and assertive outreach services.
I have worked within Hampshire and surrey psychology since 2011 with adults and adolescents with psychosis (e.g. voices, delusions and paranoia), mood difficulties (e.g. depression), anger, low self-esteem, anxiety disorders (e.g. panic attacks, health anxiety, social phobia, general anxiety disorder), post traumatic stress disorder (including trauma following accidents) insomnia, grief and stress.
Using an evidence-based approach I work mainly within a cognitive behavioural framework and draw on concepts from schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness based therapy approaches. I am able to work to flexibly and adapt this range of different therapeutic interventions to meet the particular needs of my clients.

I will work collaboratively with you to help explore how and why you struggle and enable you to understand and manage these challenges more effectively. As you learn to step back from difficulties and the distress caused you will be better able to discover new choices that can help change your life. These new perspectives will enable you to break free of repeating and unrewarding automatic behaviours and responses.
