Clinical Experience

My absolute passion and area of speciality is working with children, young people and their families across the broad range of mental health areas that affect children and young people.

I have worked in NHS specialist child and adolescent mental health services since 1999, working in community and in-patient settings. Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2006, from the University of Southampton, I have worked in an NHS specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. I have gained experience and expertise in working with a wide range of mental health issues of varying severity and complexity.  My experience and expertise includes assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD.

I also provide clinical supervision and have a post-graduate certificate in clinical supervision from the University of Reading.

I use a range of evidence-based psychological therapies to suit the needs of each individual.  Because my work is with children and adolescents, I include developmental models as well as parenting and family-based approaches to develop a shared understanding of the unique picture for every person. My main evidence-based therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Parenting, Trauma-focused CBT and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills. I provide psychological therapy for a wide range of mental health problems such as:

Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety
Separation anxiety
Phobias, both single and complex such as emetophobia (fear of vomiting), which can affect people in many ways.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia
Health anxiety
CBT for young people with autism experiencing anxiety or depression
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for single events (road traffic accidents, assault) or multiple traumas (including childhood abuse, bullying, being witness to domestic violence)
Traumatic bereavement/complex grief
Low self-esteem

I contribute to the diagnostic assessment of autism service. I am also an accredited trainer in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – 2 (ADOS-2).
