Clinical Experience

I have many years of experience working in the NHS in a range of settings. Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 1999 I have worked within secondary care mental health services in both acute (hospital) and community services. I have extensive experience of providing therapy and advising on treatments for people with a range of mental health problems. This has included periods specialising in several areas including; treating people with depression and mood disorders including Bipolar Disorder, working with people with drug and alcohol addictions, working with people with complex and longstanding mental health problems including personality disorders, and treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). As a senior psychologist in the NHS my role has included planning and delivering treatment to individuals, groups and families and carers, supervising and managing other staff, and working with staff groups and delivering training.

I can offer skills and experience in working with adults with the following issues –

  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Anxiety problems including phobias, health anxiety, social anxiety and agoraphobia
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Trauma, including symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following traumatic events or loss in adult life or related to childhood abuse or loss
  • Bereavement
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Addictions
  • Low Self Esteem

My training as a Clinical Psychologist enables me to draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and to tailor treatment to suit the needs of the individual. As such the therapy that I offer may be a brief or a longer term intervention. The models I draw on include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Systemic therapy approaches. I am also a qualified Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner – this is an empirically tested therapy for treating trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

I like to work collaboratively with clients and to identify an individual’s strengths, in order to help people find the path through their difficulties. My aim is to help you find ways to alleviate distress and maximize psychological wellbeing.

I am experienced in working with people who have been through trauma and loss, including those presenting with Post traumatic Stress Disorder. I am an EMDR Europe Accredited EMDR practitioner (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and I also work with a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) approach .
