Clinical Experience

My name is Elinor Harvey, and I am an Accredited Relationship Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I launched my private practice in 2019, having  previously worked in the NHS, Relate and HM Prison Service since 2007. I provide a local therapeutic option for individuals and couples seeking help for relationship, intimacy and communication difficulties.

I believe that our personal and intimate relationships are central to how we live. Happy, successful relationships allow us to thrive and have a wider positive impact on our mental health, our careers, family life and future aspirations. Conversely relationship problems can cause us to feel lost, overwhelmed and rootless. When our closest relationships feels under threat, we don’t always know where to turn.

I work with both individuals and couples experiencing relationship difficulties. This used to be called “marriage counselling” but in fact I welcome everyone whether they are married, single, co-habiting, in a long term partnership, or something else! My clients are couples and individuals of all backgrounds, sexualities, and identifications.

I focus on the patterns and dynamics of your relationship and try to understand what has led to some of these issues occurring. Using psychodynamic, systemic and CBT approaches, I can assess and work with you to help make sense of the challenges you are facing. Ultimately I offer an safe place for you to discuss and explore key issues and discover how things can be improved.

I have been working and volunteering in the counselling and mental health fields for 12 years, including in the NHS, HM Prison Service and for national charities such as Relate and The Samaritans. I also work as a School Counsellor in a secondary school with young people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties.

Personal Approach

I use an integrative model when working with clients so that I can tailor the work and sessions to their unique needs. Overall, I offer a kind, open minded and supportive approach, where issues can be discussed freely and change can be thought about together.

I see clients for a wide range of reasons, which may include:

  • Infidelity, affairs and trust issues
  • Communication difficulties and arguments
  • Maintaining a healthy relationship after the arrival of a baby
  • Fertility issues
  • Sexual and intimacy difficulties

  • Blending families and step children
  • Improving parent-child relationships
  • Commitment worries
  • The loss of a special relationship or person
